Forgot to mention it last night...

Two more chapters of The Hellion Prince went live.

As always, if you'd like to be added to the filter, please just let me know.  If you're on the filter and reading, please drop a comment when you do --- concrit is great but even "I read this" is pretty good.

All these book reports make me feel like an 8th grader.

Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge is my latest read, and honestly, it may instantly catapult itself into my top twenty favorites.  In a secondary world fantasy setting reminiscent of seventeenth-century England, complete with violent religious conflict, a young literate girl and an angry goose save the life of a loquacious con-man and set about accidentally altering the political climate of the local city-state.

The wordplay, the rich sense of place, the determination of the heroine (and the plight of her eyebrows), the deftness of the intrigue and mystery, the thoughtful whimsicality (and deadly seriousness) of the religion... all of them left me utterly charmed.

Fortunately for me, there is a sequel.

Today...

...I passed 50,000 words of fiction written so far this year, only 48 hours behind schedule.
