On the inability to recognize fiscal conservatism in the modern US political climate.

I'm enough of a social liberal that there's an implied fiscal liberalism to my views, because they have to be paid for. But I also believe in a competitive free market, in bills trimmed of unrelated pork, of knowing where revenue will be generated before we spend, of curtailing paychecks so high that they hurt profits and bear no relationship to the amount of work done by the person with that salary. I believe in closing loopholes, cutting subsidies, of continued but *proportional* military spending, and of investing in education, science, and heath care so that the workforce is well enough, smart enough, and well equipped enough to do the amazing.
I have no idea if that belief is conservative or liberal.
