Pinching Penny.
Sep. 27th, 2010 02:09 amHey dreamwidth-only folks, there's a few new posts for you to see -- while I imported all the old ones weeks ago, I've been forgetting to cross-post from here more recently. Up to date on this journal once again and just hoping to keep that way.
Apart from that, though, tonight I have just one thing to talk about - a fabulous indie flick I saw today, a black comedy called Pinching Penny that has just screened locally and it, with any luck, headed toward film festivals, DVD releases, and possibly limited theatrical distribution, if it can get the money (or the popular support necessary to convince people to shell out the money). It was made entirely locally, by a crowd of ludicrously talented local folks that include a fair number of my friends and acquaintances, so I readily admit my bias, but I thought it was fantastic. Borrowing from the tropes and visual language of Trainspotting, Snatch, & The Big Lebowski, among others, Pinching Penny is a sometimes-surreal, sometimes fully visceral movie about addiction, self-destruction, consumerism, and a kidnapping gone completely fucking wrong.
The Facebook page for the movie is here and the teaser trailer is here. Check it out. If it seems like your thing, spread the word -- I'm eager to talk about it, to share the experience and promote the amazing local filmmaking scene that a few (dozen) brilliant and talented folks are building here in town. They could use your help, and they'd love your enthusiasm, and so would I.
