It has not escaped my attention that I've gotten a few new readers since I posted my defense of dark fantasy a couple days ago, which means it would probably be polite and helpful and stuff if I were to introduce myself.  Because, you know, I like attention!  And making new friends, and kidnapping new audience members, and it's in my best interests to explain why I am interesting so that everyone sticks around.  :-)

My name isn't quite Matt Doyle, but it's close, and this is the name I use for all my creative endeavors these days.  I'm 26 years old.  I have a BA in English Literature and Classical Studies (with a minor in Sociology), but I'm still paying for my diploma because I couldn't even get loans to cover my last year.  I have worked as a journalist, an editor, an administrative assistant, and a community organizer, but I am presently unemployed.  I've lived in Minnesota all my life, and I love it here, and I don't think it's all that cold outside.  I'm an extremely heterodox Christian, but if you're one of those people who has an instinctive fear of people who introduce themselves as Christian, don't worry, so do I.  My politics are extremely liberal, more Social Democrat than Democrat, and I am extremely outspoken, in part because I like hyperbole and don't take myself too seriously.  This has been known to backfire on me in text-based conversations.  I am a bisexual man in a monogamous heterosexual marriage to the most wonderful woman in the world, who, as you all know, is [livejournal.com profile] elf_amazon .  Let's see.  What else is relevant?

I write.

I write primarily dark fantasy (what a shock!), and have been published on a collegiate but not professional level.  My short fiction is mostly up on AO3 here, and ranges from Cthulhu Mythos to Norse Mythology to a retelling of Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, with a little bit of Dark Tower and Full Metal Alchemist.  I have finished one novel, Running In Her Veins, which is a neo-gothic urban fantasy about a kidnapped girl who discovers that demons are real.  I'm working on another, The Hellion Prince, which is a dark fantasy Regency romance in a secondary-world setting where a group of failed revolutionaries leased a kingdom from the fey.  If either of these sound interesting, they're posted under filters, and I am always delighted to trick someone new into reading them.

Hey, friendslist!  What else should new readers know about me?

Hey, new readers!  What else would you like to know about me?

I'm a tremendous geek, and I hope you enjoy your stay in my little corner of the internet.  If you friend me, Im almost certain to friend you back.  I don't bite, I promise.
