My post yesterday about my hatred of certain aspects of fantastical history is still spawning some very lively discussions, of the kind I would love to host in this blog more often. If you have a strong opinions (disagreement is as welcome as agreement) I'd love to hear you weigh in, and if you know anyone else on LJ who doesn't read my blog but might like to join the discussion, please toss them the link and invite them over!
Also, I think the discussions in the comments are going to give me a surplus of things to talk about in upcoming days. What do I like about fantastic history? How does the lifespan of elves affect the fantastic histories they are given? Does Naomi Novik read my LJ, and would she like to comment on our speculation about the differences in her worldbuilding between European and non-European nations? There's a lot to think about in those threads, IMNSHO, and I'm excited to explore several of the tangents people have brought up.
What tropes in fantasy do you loathe and abhor?
