Bad things:

The camera work was queasy-making.

The science was a little more awful than usual (but I didn't care).

Good things:

EVERYTHING ELSE.

The cast was pitch-perfect, most especially Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto. The rest did a little more branching out in new directions and delving into their characters more deeply than the original series, which was good. I can definitely handle a competent Chekov. While the exposition was a little too much, the concept worked for me, and the execution was stylish and dramatic.

Although I still think that the scriptwriters started out by adapting the novel Best Destiny into a movie, and the rest came about as the result of making it AU.

So. When are they starting filming on the next one?

Yes and Yes.

So the fandom seems to be totally split on the whole Spock/Uhura thing; what was your take?

Fortotally. I'm glad, because I at the least didn't hate it - especially because of Kirk's reaction, of course - and then I came on the internet and found my few Trekkie friends in an uproar about how awful it was.

I adored those throwbacks to TOS. I couldn't see Scotty as Scotty, which was sad since I loved him so much when I was little, but that's not such a great loss in the face of the rest of the wonderfulness.

I was at first interested by the camerawork, but when the dramatic-lighting-things kept happening every minute, I got very tired of it. So very JJ Abrams.

Sequel anticipated Summer '11.
