Collaborations.
Jan. 25th, 2011 01:01 pmYeah, the fact that it takes me three days to list all my unfinished projects is a bad thing. Just be thankful I'm sticking to things I'm currently working on or planning to work on again -- if I posted my orphaned works we'd be here all week.
So, collaborations. I love doing collaborations, and a lot of my best and tightest work comes from bouncing ideas off of other people. Right now, there are only three, and all of them are on the back burner -- two sidelined while still in the planning stage until I finish a novel or two, and one of them on hold because my sister and I can only make progress on it when we're hanging out together, which happens twice a year maybe.
Cat Among the Rushes & A Fey Romance (working title there) are both projects with my lovely wife,
elf_amazon . The first is a talking animal story, somewhere between Watership Down and Redwall -- we're not giving human civilization and opposable thumbs to anything, and we are doing exhaustive research on animal behavior... but unlike Watership Down, they do more than dig holes in the ground, and do have interactions more complex than those they might have in the real world. The second is a fantasy romance involving a mischievous sprite and the two victims of a changeling switch who are trying to find one another and set things straight... whatever that means
Crossheart Hall is a serial web novel co-written with my sister,
celebros . Set in the same world as The Hellion Prince, but about fifteen years earlier, it tells the story of three young mage-lords orphaned by plague or politics who are all adopted by the mysterious recluse Countess Shadowcross, and whisked away to live in her sprawling, baroque manor deep in the woods. If I could pick a single back-burnered project to pick up and prioritize, this would be it, but it only creatively clicks when she and I are in the same room. Google Docs just ain't the same.
Coming soon: excerpts and more discussions of music.
