Between the two of them, the display of ignorant bigotry is so staggering that, if they didn't have verifiable publishing careers, I would assume both were fictional personae of a particularly ambitious and creative troll.


ETA: It is worth noting that Ms. Lamplighter has since posted an apology. It's so at odds with what she said previously that I am inclined to suspect it may really be sincere.

Some days I really do wonder why I bother.

i don't even read the comments anymore. the point has been gotten across for good or bad (usually bad). the rest just devolves into ugly dramatics and shoutfests.

i was familiar with her, and her apology, and was still disgusted with both. i hadn't realized that she was married, let alone to such a dick. however, it really doesn't surprise me.

the premise of her notorious book doesn't upset me terribly, to be honest. i'm used to the fiction i read exploring territories that offends many people. if it's as poorly written as her defenses and apologies, and that poorly presented, though, i'm not going to buy it unless i'm desperately hard up for a book. not a GOOD book, just ANY book. and now knowing that she's married to such a jerk (a literate jerk, for a change, but still a jerk), she gets from me even if i'm desperate for something to read...$0.

i feel slightly bad for her, since she was swept up in the ragefest of racefail. especially if you defend yourself, there is no winning in ragefest09. it is not reasonable, it is not sane. you have exactly one way to possibly escape the hatred tsunami: be a tormented PoC. the whole thing drives me crazy--or rather drives me to hiding under the bed, crying and trying to figure out how it is that the nicest people i know (including myself) can be castigated for SUPPORTING a cause.
