I love autumn.

It's still summer now, but we've had a series of blustery days, the leaves in the tree outside the picture window have begun to yellow, and it's ironic but true that the closer we come to the season where everything dies, the more I feel alive.

Date: 2009-08-22 07:07 am (UTC)Although I should point out that Ireland is extremely weird: we base our seasons around the Celtic calendar, solstices and equinoxes. So we consider Autumn to be August, September and October--not September, October and November. Our winter season starts in November. But as a result, the longest and shortest days of the year fall around the middle of our summer and winter, so it's pretty neat.
Every Irish kid is taught this as a kid, but it's never explained that the rest of the world follows different patterns. I only realised when I cheerfully told my British flatmate a week ago that Autumn was here and was met with a blank look.
