You know, I don't think anything Alyssa Bereznak said was all that bad, or all that hurtful, though I think it was probably a bad choice to turn her experience into an article that got published on the net, where fandom lives.  But it certainly seems to me like people are treating her much more harshly than she treated her nerdy date.
