I have intended to start crossposting for a long time, since people seem to be gradually migrating to Dreamwidth (let me know if you need an invite code) and I do like the ethos and transparency at Dreamwidth, while at LJ I like my massive unwieldy and stubborn friendlist.

I, uh, never realized just how easy it was to set up crossposting, though, or I would have done it ages ago.  For those of you who have, like me, been considering it without investigating it, hop over to Dreamwidth and have a look.  It took me about ten seconds to set up.

ETA: Now, how easy/complicated is it to import old posts from one platform to the other?  Do I have to go back and do it manually, one at a time, or is there some clever app that would let me mass-duplicate old posts and toss 'em up here?  Central archiving is nice...

Also, something I don't know yet and am about to find out:  will this edit automatically crosspost as well?

ETA2:  Apparently it will.  Nifty.

ETA3:  And as of now I have imported everything from both [livejournal.com profile] matt_doyle and [livejournal.com profile] mattador .

Holy cow.

Yeah, I saw the "this might take a day" and shurgged and hit the button and went for a cup of tea, figuring I'd check on it tomorrow and then it was half done. So much for waiting and queues.

I did the friends importer as well, and then went through and had to scrub it, so I'm not sure if that was a good idea or not. Probably not. and I haven't actually checked to see if it really worked, because to me any technology is indistinguishable from magic, but it seems to be as user friendly as could reasonably be expected.

Now to find people over there. I miss LJnotes, I'll admit, mostly because I interact in communities and it was really nice to have the little flag that said, "Anti-whatever. Do not engage!" so I'm afraid I'm going to have to come up with a workaround for those as I start repopulating my reading list.

And clearing the people who've died was more emotional than I had expected.
