Favorite by what criteria? I mean, I love the life story and highly improbablt death of rasputin. Alexander the Great was increedubly interstsing and slightly more admirable, though my favorite story about him is the apocryphal tale of the Gordian Knot.
While I'm sure I would have hated the guy if I had to hang out with him, I have a historical crush on George Gordon, Lord Byron. The Shelleys, too.
(For that matter, if I ver go into grad school, my thesis will be on the legacy of Christian Mysticism in English Literature: Milton, Blake, Shelley, and Yeats have a fascinating chain of commonalities).
Socrates is another, as is the dubious historical personalirt upon which King Arthur may have been based.
Genghis Khan, Hannibal and the story of how he failed to invade Rome, Olympias (mother of Alexander), and really, I'm sure I could keep naming greek, Roman, and otyher near esatern figures fotr a very long time. That covers the primary bases, at least.
I have a tendency to get very interested in time periods as well as peopel, but that's probably a whole nother post.
