Star Wars: X-Wing: Mercy Kill.

I have less to say about this one than I thought.  Much better than any other Star Wars novel in years, but still set against the backdrop of all kinds of editorially mandates events and changes in the universe I deplore.  It was a lot of fun to see Wraith Squadron back in action; but more than anything it makes me want fix-it fanfic and more novels set pre-NJO, in an era I actually care about.

Yeah, I remember reading the assorted X-Wing books and liking them, but the fact that Mercy Kill is set post-let-there-be-nothing-but-grimdarkness has put me off of reading it.

In some hard to explain way, NJO kind of ruined Star Wars for me until I started playing SW:TOR. Even though I've never read a single NJO book. And no, I don't know how that works.

Speaking as someone who stuck out NJO, Dark Nest, and Legacy of the Force, and who is still reading if not BUYING fate of the Jedi... you are leading a happier life full of more quality literature than I am. It makes perfect sense to me.
